GAES Solidaria/Gran Prix del Atlántico

The Atlantic Grand Prix fleet has emerged from the storm that has jostled them about for the past five days. The boats have now entered into a zone with favourable winds. Niob Sexto Cheyenne continues to lead the entries.

With the low pressure behind her and her bow pointing towards the Dominican Republic, Niob Sexto Cheyenne is charging ahead at the front of the fleet. The leader is currently 1,364 miles from the finish, closely followed by Macaco, at 1,404 miles from the finish. The podium trio is completed by Aneki, further south, but in the same wind system, some 1,743 miles from the finishing line.

Having also emerged from the storm, now on a westerly course are Mission Skipper, 1,945 miles from finishing and Infoveleros.com, 2,037 miles from the finish. There is no current on-line satellite reading for Pilar Pasanau, but it’s calculated that the yachtswoman is in the same area. Iberdac-Gaes with the Spanish skipper is now the only solo entry in the race, a testament to the sailor’s great progress in a regatta that has already seen 5 boats retiring from the competition.

A few miles behind, set to abandon the low pressure zone at any moment are Estrella Maris II and Acrobat. In the latest reports the entries were holding a southerly course, just  few miles from the the fair winds that will allow them to switch to a more westerly course.
