Awards for the FNOB and Anna Corbella at Baiona

The Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona was presented with the award for Best Sailing Team whilst Anna Corbella took the prize for Best Sailor at the Terras Gaudas National Sailing Awards, awarded by the winery of the same name at the Monte Real Yacht and Racing Club in Baiona, Northern Spain.

 

Anna Corbella's magnificent sailing career as the first Spanish female to cross the Atlantic solo; and the Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona's efforts in the creation of top level sailing squads were both recognised with awards on Saturday in Baiona. Anna took the Best Sailor prize and the Fundació took Best Sailing Team.

The Terras Gaudas National Sailing Awards, set up to recognise those institutions, companies and sailors working to build on and to promote the sport of sailing, were awarded at the Monte Real Yacht and Racing Club in Baiona, Galicia, Northern Spain.

The ceremony was hosted by President of the Monte Real club, Rafael Olmedo, accompanied by the President of the Terras Gauda winery, José María Fonseca; Baiona's Mayor, Jesús Vázquez Almuiña; the Xunta of Galicia's General Secretary for Sport, José Ramón Lete; Xunta General Secretary for Tourism, Carmen Pardo; the Chief Admiral of the Ferrol Arsenal and the leading figurehead for the Spanish Navy in Galicia, Santiago Bolívar; the yacht club's Vice President, Alfonso Paz Andrade; and the President of the Galician Sailing Federation, José Ángel Rodríguez.

Joining Anna and the FNOB on the list of award-winners this year were: Skipper of the Year, Carlos Paz; Best Project, Alejandro Pérez Calzada's 'Charisma'; Best Club, the Comisión Naval de Regatas; Best ORC 670, 'Movistar' owned by Pedro Campos; Best ORC 570, José Luís Freire, Bonifacio Logares and Constante Freire's 'Pairo 8'; and the Mariano Aguado Prize for Communication went to Televisión Galicia.
