The Fundació Navegació Oceánica de Barcelona (FNOB-the Barcelona Foundation for
Ocean Sailing) reiterates its initiative to promote top-competition ocean sailing by lending
its support to the participation of 4 young Spanish skippers during the Mini Transat -
Charente-Maritime/Bahia Transat 6.50- 2011competition.
This project is sponsored by GAES which once again tackles the basic promotion of the
offshore competition, and the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV-Spanish Royal
Sailing Federation) and the Real Asociación Nacional de Cruceros (RANC, the Royal
National Association of Cruisers).
The four young Spaniards are currently in La Rochelle (France), in the middle of
preparing to face the voyage scheduled to start on 25 September. With its 4,200 miles,
this is one of the hardest regattas in the world, especially due to the fact that it entails
crossing the ocean alone, in sailboats of just 6.5 metres in length.
The Spanish participants are:
• In the SERIE category:
Dídac Costa
Jorge Madden
• In the PROTOS Category:
Juan Carlos Oliva
Aleix Gelabert
The Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB) has lent its support to this
initiative to help young Spanish skippers be present during this regatta, which traditionally
opens the way to higher categories such as the Open 60.
