Joel Miró, the final Mini GAES Solidaria team member to finish the second leg of the Mini Transat 6.50 is now in Bahia (Brazil). The Spanish skipper crossed the finishing line at 04:30 local time.
Just after 4:30am local time boat number 677 skippered by Mini GAES Solidaria team member, Joel Miró crossed the finishing line of the second leg in the Charente Maritime / Bahia Transat 6.50. This now means that all of the six members of the Spanish fleet have now completed the race.
A tactical error at the start of the race put Joel right to the back of the rankings. After the start at Funchal Joel Miró followed Gerard Marín, Toni Weijl and Andrea Caracci’s trail towards the East of the Canary Islands and got stuck in a breezeless pocket that took two days to escape from. However, the Spanish sailor didn’t give up and he slowly began to climb positions once he hit the trade winds.
Unfortunately for the Spaniard, the chances to make a good finish faded away with that mistaken tactical call, but Miró fought all the way and managed to climb more than fifteen places during the regatta.
