The IMOCA Open 60 Safran has won the Transat Jacques Vabre. Marc Guillemot and Charles Caudrelier’s entry has taken 15 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 10 seconds to race from Le Havre (in Normandy, France) to Costa Rica's Puerto Limon. W Hotels continues in fifth position, whilst 1876 are in ninth place in the fleet.
Marc Guillemot and Charles Caudrelier’s Safrán crossed the Transat Jacques Vabre finishing line in Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, at 02:52:10s today, Tuesday 24th November. In doing so, the boat has become the winner of the race, having taken15 days 19 hours 22 minutes and 10 seconds to sail from Le Havre to Puerto Limón, at a theoretical average speed of 12.46 knots.
Groupe Bel with Kito de Pavant and François Gabart continues in ‘invisible’ mode, but the entry is close to crossing the finishing line in second place. The third step on the podium looks set to go to Mike Golding and Bubi Sansó, currently some 204 miles from the finish. In fourth place lies Foncia with skippers Michel Desjoyeaux and Jérémie Beyou, currently also in invisible mode.
The two Spanish entries: W Hotels and 1876, continue to battle on out in the open Caribbean Sea to defend their positions. Alex Pella and Pepe Ribes’ entry is fifth, with a 60 mile lead on Veolia Environnement. Fourth place Foncia are considerably further away, some 400 miles from their bow. Pachi Rivero and Yves Parlier are sailing in ninth place, 65 miles behind Akena Verandas and 130 in front of Artemis, the closing entry in this year’s classification.
